Wiki So Far

As of yet i have not contributed to wiki but i plan to contribute some knowledge on social networking which I've gained and I would like share with everyone.

P2P File Sharing

1. File sharing is the exchange of files between people and this is done every second. This can include things like documents, songs, movies, or memory. Files are stored data on a hard drive and with file sharing you can send this data over to somebody else with the same software capabilities.

2. P2P file sharing is something that allows users to access many files including books, movies, music and games as long as they are using the P2P software. It has started with companies like Napster and has grown to be one of the largest distribution networks in the world.

3. Some examples of P2P file sharing is torrents in which you can access and share media files over the internet. You need to have the software to be able to be apart of it but this is essentially what P2P file sharing is used for.

Privacy and Confidentiality In New Media

New media has made privacy almost extinct over the years because of how much information becomes public by sharing online. People don't notice how much they are posting about their own lives because they think it is all out there for friends but have no idea where it is going. Privacy was something very sacred and since this era with social networking like Facebook and Twitter it took it to a new level. The older generation took privacy and confidentiality very seriously and nowadays people don't understand the seriousness and the risks that come along with losing your privacy due to new media.

New Media at Baruch College

If i were to improve new media at Baruch College i would try to do the best job i can. The most important dynamic from communication within a university is between student to student and student to professor. I would create an application exclusive to students and professors in Baruch College which allows for private communication and public. Private communication would of course stay confidential and could be questions of advise that students are seeking out from professors or more experienced students and then there would be a blog area where people can share useful information about school activities and maybe school appropriate jokes. I believe this is a great idea for the school if i were to be hired to advance new media at Baruch College.
