New type of new media

A new type of new media that i would suggest is for a system to be created to allow restaurants and customers interact. Customers eat at resturants all day and of course they have thoughts on how to improve either the atmosphere of the place of how the food taste. It is very difficult for owners to know and communicate with the customers because they are always so busy, so if a new way of communication was made through new media then it would fill a void.

Wiki So Far

As of yet i have not contributed to wiki but i plan to contribute some knowledge on social networking which I've gained and I would like share with everyone.

P2P File Sharing

1. File sharing is the exchange of files between people and this is done every second. This can include things like documents, songs, movies, or memory. Files are stored data on a hard drive and with file sharing you can send this data over to somebody else with the same software capabilities.

2. P2P file sharing is something that allows users to access many files including books, movies, music and games as long as they are using the P2P software. It has started with companies like Napster and has grown to be one of the largest distribution networks in the world.

3. Some examples of P2P file sharing is torrents in which you can access and share media files over the internet. You need to have the software to be able to be apart of it but this is essentially what P2P file sharing is used for.

Privacy and Confidentiality In New Media

New media has made privacy almost extinct over the years because of how much information becomes public by sharing online. People don't notice how much they are posting about their own lives because they think it is all out there for friends but have no idea where it is going. Privacy was something very sacred and since this era with social networking like Facebook and Twitter it took it to a new level. The older generation took privacy and confidentiality very seriously and nowadays people don't understand the seriousness and the risks that come along with losing your privacy due to new media.

New Media at Baruch College

If i were to improve new media at Baruch College i would try to do the best job i can. The most important dynamic from communication within a university is between student to student and student to professor. I would create an application exclusive to students and professors in Baruch College which allows for private communication and public. Private communication would of course stay confidential and could be questions of advise that students are seeking out from professors or more experienced students and then there would be a blog area where people can share useful information about school activities and maybe school appropriate jokes. I believe this is a great idea for the school if i were to be hired to advance new media at Baruch College.

Creativity

New media is what almost defines creativity of the present. New media gave us new ways and tools to use and look at things even if your looking at what somebody else did. These are all news ways to do things which haven't been done like this in the past. From"Twitter Serves Up Ideas From Its Followers" By Claire Cain Miller, we learn how Twitter got much of its information on how to upgrade its service from its followers. People don't realize how big new media is in the sense how everything people are writing is noted and studied by companies to try and improve the service in which it is providing. Twitter was just a company who was as simple as 140 characters but because it followed what its customers were saying it was able to grown tremendously and become what it has today with some amazing integrations and features. New Media is nothing simple and it grows by innovation and comments from its users and it will grow more and more in the future. This comes to show how creativity brings out strong foundation and growth and its not only the inventors who hold this creativity even though they brought whatever it is to the market.

Modeling Reality With Virtual Worlds

Sometimes today we can even confuse virtual worlds with reality because it has become to common that virtual worlds is the norm. I have played video games that i can create a world from scratch and sometimes we get so sucked up into it that we confuse it with being reality. I think it is very beneficial because it gets your brain moving and innovative while you are in your room at the computer. Others have their own opinion like in the Advantage & Disadvantages of the Virtual Classroom And The Role of The Teacher by Guy Posey we see how it is not so beneficial to teachers because it is taking away from the classroom experience. As we get further into technology they are trying to replace our current reality with a virtual reality but it has its pros and cons. In another article that i read called "How Will Virtual reality Change Gambling"we see how good the technology is that people even mistake what reality is but in this case their is an issue because people have their finances at stake and may not even feel the risk. This is a tremendous topic which will gain more and more momentum moving forward.

Social Networking Sites

I compared four social networking sites which are Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin. These four sites may be similar in a sense but are still very different. From twitter i got the impression that its all about sharing thoughts or information instantly. I think that Twitter is a very powerful network because of how much information is transferred around. Facebook which is arguably the grandfather of them all is an integration of many different aspects which are to share thoughts and information, to post photos and videos, to bring groups together. Facebook is very broad and has much respect in the social network world. Instagram which was acquired by Facebook is an application in which pictures and videos are shares. It is used to simply post photos and your follows can enjoy viewing them by scrolling down. Even though it sounds simple it is very powerful and has acquired a tremendous amount of users and was bought out for an outstanding amount of money. Linkedin is a social network for business. It connects employees or Ceos from all companies around the world and it can even be used to hire or recruit employees. It is used to share information about your friends, for example you will get notified if they got a promotion or changed jobs.

How does a Twitter discussion compare to a BlackBoard Discussion? To an in-class discussion?

A Twitter discussion is pretty different than a Blackboard discussion and i believe for the main reason that you are limited in how long a tweet can be. Sometimes discussions can be very important and in order to bring your point across it may take over 140 characters, and this essentially limits your discussion tremendously. In a blackboard discussion there are no limits on how long it has to be and this may give more clear discussions. An class discussion which is face to face is the most powerful way to have a discussion because it is a personal interaction with clear emotions. The issue with typing is you may misjudge the emotions in which is being presented and that for sure alters how powerful the discussion can be.

Social Networking

When it comes to social networking, there are many benefits to it as there are many dark sides to it. The ways that these technologies can be most useful and beneficial are usually in a social way which includes sharing new things with friends, making new friends, and raising awareness on certain topics. Corporate companies can benefit from social networking as well from things like Linkedin where they can reach out to existing employees or to look for new workers, and we learn a lot about this from the article "Social Networking Technology Boost Job Recruiting" by Frank Langfitt. Social Networking may not have bee created for the intentions of the job market but it has definitely served tremendously to it. we learn a lot from the article "Being There" by Virginia Heferrnan as she speaks about Facebook and about do people really care about your updates. The main dark side issue that we are all aware about is privacy and this is where it can get really tricky. People don't realize but they have more information on their then they think and this is crucial for hackers and stalkers. Moving forward into the future i think that social networking is only going to get stronger and more effective with current and future technologies.

Blog v Wiki

There are some differences between blogs and wikis. We can start off with the difference that a blog usually has one creator while a wiki can be accessed and changed by more than one person. Wikis are usually edited by by a group or team, contains links to other wiki pages, and are continuously changing and rapidly growing. Blogs have a more traditional use of authors creating while authors comment, opinion sharing, and contains one to many contents. These are both very important in the internet world. Blogs can be used for collaboration by collaborating authors to maximize the knowledge that they are looking to accomplish. A new use that can be used with wikipedia would be the ability to have everything verified by experts in the fields in which are being written about, this would revolutionize wiki as we know it.

My project on Social Networking: A purposeful loss of privacy

Hi All,

Social Media has its ups and downs like everything else. It has a lot to offer but i will be concentrating on the loss of privacy that it prevents. People may not notice but most of the things that are posted should be private and were kept private in previous generations. It can be about something you ate that day or who you were hanging out with. These are both losses of privacy if you realize or don't. For this project i will dive into many areas of where privacy has been lost and how many people may have even forgotten what privacy areas consist of.
